Kim Kardashian Met Gala 2024
Kim Kardashian always ensures she doesn’t repeat the same designer at the Met Gala, opting for Margiela this year, Schiaparelli last year, Balenciaga, and Mugler. However, she has worn the same brand of shoes twice: Pleasers, a line of stripper heels priced between $50 to $100. In 2022, she paired a $50 clear plastic mules with Marilyn Monroe’s historically significant, extremely flammable nude rhinestone dress. This year, she chose the brand’s heel-less platforms, resembling a digitigrade horse hoof, to prevent piercing her skirt’s metal filigree with a stiletto. “That was the issue of walking,” she mentioned in a Vogue video. “I think we really need the height on this look, so we gotta do what we gotta do.”
Kardashian wasn’t the only one sporting Pleasers at the Met Gala; Doja Cat and Janelle Monáe also wore the brand’s clear plastic platforms. Recognizable by the black rubberized tread on the sole and heel, these shoes are a practical styling tool, adding around 6 inches to the wearer’s height. While it was unexpected to see Pleasers at the Met Gala, it does make sense: they blend well with elaborate outfits, providing height without stealing the spotlight. Essentially, they serve as work shoes — walking in heel-less platforms is challenging, but Pleasers offer reliability in terms of structure.
